Rules

 

Pool Phase

20 teams participating in 2007 Rugby World cup in france. Teams are divided into 4 pools(5 teams in each pool). First round of matches will be played between the teams in same pool on Round Robin basis(means each team will play with other once). 10 matches were schedule to be played in each pools i.e., total 40 matches to be played in this pool phase.

 

Point System at pool phase

following type of points system applied for matches at pool phase

   - For each Win - Four Points(4 points).

   - For every draw match - Two Points(2 points) each team.

   - Loss by 7 points or less - One Point(1 point).

   - 4 or more tries - One Point(1 point).

 

KNOCKOUT MATCHES

Quarter-finals

Top two teams of each pool will qualify for quarter finals round. All matches in this round will be played on knock out basis. The quarter finals positions are as follows:

 

  • Quarter-final 1 - Winner of pool B vs.  Runner up of pool A

 

  • Quarter-final 2 – Winner of pool C vs. Runner up of pool D

 

  • Quarter-final 3 - Winner of pool A vs. Runner up of pool B

 

  • Quarter-final 4 - Winner of pool D vs. Runner up of pool C

 

 

Winners of quarter-final Matches shall qualify for the semi-final matches, and losing teams of quarter-final Matches shall be ruled out from the rest of Tournament.

 

 

Semi-finals

 

Semi-finals matches will be played between winners of quarter finals matches i.e.:

 

Semifinal 1 - Winner of Quarter Final 1 v Winner Quarter Final 2

 

Semifinal 2 - Winner Quarter Final 3 v Winner Quarter Final  4

 

Winners of Semi final will qualify for final and play for gold medal and silver medal respectively and the loosers of semifinal matches will fight for Bronze Medal.
